And her love seemed to offer a solution
For endless beginnings, and so I went spinning
into her to love her,
But found her one answer
for loving and losing the same,

It’s a Saturday Night at the world.

Best wishes, and a big “Hello” to all!

Welcome, everyone to the tnocs.com Weekend Wrap-Up!

It’s so great to have your pleasant and kind companionship at The Weekend Files. I hope that you all have had as much fun as I’ve had all week, reading the excellent articles by our beloved Contributing Authors.

In my continuing (and usually futile) effort to bring the funny, I decided to stay awake as late as possible last night, to try and come up with some new Comedy Humor Jokes. My particular choice of beverage notwithstanding, I am ashamed to report that I still fell asleep at the keyboard. Subsequently, I am not quite as prepared as I would have liked to have been…. And, good grief, look at the time! The publishing deadline for this article is nigh.

If only there were someone nearby that could help with a bit, or a gag…

How embarrassing. This is the one time that I hope we don’t go viral.

OK. We clearly need a nap. But first, the news of the week, in classic bullet point style:

• This week, five days a week with new content morphed in to six as we kicked our expanded content up a notch. A new article on a Sunday morning? Yeah, I felt like a regular brunch anchor. It kind of seems like a reasonable schedule. But as we said in this space last week, we want to hear what you think about the increased activity. I really want to get it right. The reader’s opinion is very important and most welcome. Let me know.

• Your awesome shout-outs at other websites and socials, to include Twitter, Facebook, IG, and also to anyone who might have fun hanging with our crowd is very much appreciated, and is helping to increase our article views, lurking visitors, comment counts, and general popularity. I thank you for the endorsements and the referrals!

As always, please enjoy using using the “The Weekend Files” comment section below for anything that you want to chat about, all weekend long.

And now, here’s our recap of the cool stuff that you may have missed this week…

This Past Week’s New Articles

When you walk through the door at the end of a rough day, it’s a blessing to be greeted by a good friend; one who loves you and is genuinely delighted that you’ve come home to be with them. Contributing Author Chuck Small shared a sweet article about missing one such beloved companion. His Sunday Morning photo essay was beautiful in it’s simplicity. We’re with you, Chuck. Pointer was clearly a good buddy We get it – and we’re with you.

Contributing Author minor major 7th was seemingly reading my mind this week, speaking about generational identity. Many of us here pride ourselves on our open mindedness, as we look both backwards and forward, and proactively look for music that might otherwise go undiscovered. Friend mM7 is no exception. He explained perfectly – he gets it. And we suspect that if you checked with his awesome family, they would confirm that he lives it, as well.

You just never know what is going to make you execute a spontaneous triple-axel-style coffee-spit at 1:30 in the morning. That was me, reading: “Moldova? MOLDOVA!” whilst doing the layout for the latest hilarious article by dutchg8r. There was so much packed into this piece, I hardly know where to begin. So, do yourself a solid, and check it out. And remember, when it’s Johnny Weir Certified®… you can’t go wrong.

Like the old song says, “Memories light the corners of my mind.” Our ever-thoughtful Contributing Author Phylum Of Alexandria  spoke this week of such memories, and a unique schema for archival and retrieval. We love our lists, and the way that songs can bring us back to a certain timeline in our life. If you missed it, take a moment and have a nice read to learn what friend PoA calls, “a phono album,” and maybe start one of your own.

Just today: bassist, writer, pie aficionado, and Contributing Author Bill Bois treated us to another session of Theoretically Speaking: Music Theory For Non-Musicians. Every week, I learn more about what I’ve been doing wrong for 40 years. Our instructor is a patient guy, and clearly has knack for making things understandable. For a gazillion reasons, we’re lucky to have him here. Looking forward to next week!

The last of our six great new articles this week came from tnocs.com Contributing Author and Red Roof Inn Gold Circle Member thegue, who was in the Up Front today. He spoke of his wanderlust, and shared a couple of ideas of exotic places to visit. As always, it was another great conversation starter from our good friend. And, I hereby declare this very day: his suggestions, as well as those offered in the comment section by our esteemed readers, are officially in the running for any future tnocs.com meetups. Eat your heart out, Disney World.

Site Stuff:

  • I totally slacked on improving the “heart upvote” and comment edit tool coding. I’ll try to get to it this weekend.

  • How’m I doin? Is the site loading and responding fast enough? Any major fails? Looking good on desktop, tablet, and mobile? Please let me know what you like, hate or would like to see for your best viewing experience. Feedback is appreciated and respected.
  • Want to see your byline Up Front? So do we! Please write for us! Old comment section veterans and newcomers are all welcome to join in the reverie.
We want to hear what’s on your mind. If you have an idea or just want to chat about stuff, PM me anytime at submissions@tnocs.com .

• Any suggestions for channels? Content? Cool features? General mayhem?

I want this to be your place. Tell me how to make it better.

Thank you so much for your support and kind comments about the site. I’m impossibly lucky to be able to hang with all of you. Have a great weekend, please be careful, take good care of yourselves and each other…

.. and good on you all.

I’m liking the five day a week schedule. As long as there’s enough content, go for it. So far, it’s all interesting stuff.

But right now, I just want to know the rest of the Pomeranian joke.

Four day weekend here, thanks to Her Majesty’s longevity. Its her Platinum Jubilee, 70 years and counting. Which means its 45 years since The Sex Pistols released their alternative version of God Save the Queen for her Silver Jubilee. Continuing that great tradition are a band who as the chart rundown announced yesterday; ‘its a band whose name I can’t say with a song whose name I can’t say.’ See below, you can probably work out the band name.

Busy week, saw Alan Partridge aka Steve Coogan last Sunday. Very funny, only issue was the guy sat behind us who everytime Alan / Steve said anything he found amusing would loudly repeat the last few words then say ‘now that’s funny.’ It got pretty annoying pretty quickly.

The following night was Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever. Taking to the stage two years later than planned, they were on fine form. Awesome gig. Their support was great too, another Aussie, singer songwriter Stella Donnelly. She had some very entertaining between song chat, swore a lot and even had a choreographed dance routine for one song. There’s not enough dance moves in the alternative music scene.

Right then, I must be off to stand to attention for the national anthem, wave a Union Jack and have tea and scones. Or ignore the whole thing and give Never Mind the Bollocks a spin. Enjoy the weekend folks.

Stella Donnelly. Love her. Stereogum previewed “Tricks”. Right away, I’m thinking Exile in Guyville. Nobody cool will ever play my neck of the woods ever again.

I think things are going well in the site, I can’t be daily here, but every seems to be fine. I appreciate the effort to give the page a life of its own.
