Boxing Day Box Sets: For The Music Loving Folks In Your World

Here’s a shocker: Where I live, I don’t have a doorman.

“I’m sorry… excuse me?”

Oof. My bad. I’ll be better. Let me start again:

I don’t have a doorperson.

But I promise that if I did, I would make sure to have something nice for them to commemorate The Second Day of Christmastide…

Also known as Boxing Day.

Traditionally, it’s a time for building residents and employers to give gifts, money, or specialty food items to their employees and assistants. In more recent years, it’s increasingly become an opportunity for family reunions, outdoor activities, and a focus on charity and volunteering. As you would imagine, cash tips are the most popular Boxing Day gift.

But what if there’s a music fan in your circle of valued service providers?

Want to step it up for your favorite head-bopping bartender, trash collector, dry cleaner, or dog walker?

Consider a Box Set.

“We’re 7. Help us out. Is this one of those ‘boomer’ things?”

Sorry to confuse. Just off the top of my head, and possibly maybe copied and CTRL-V-ed from Wikipedia:

box set (or boxed set) is a set of items (for example, a compilation of books, musical recordings, films or television programs) traditionally packaged in a box, and offered for sale as a single unit.

Music box (or ‘boxed’) sets make excellent gifts. In addition to great songs and rare performances, there’s lots of interesting ancillary content. This deep-dive material is perfect for a deep-diving fan.

There’s also a new-ish box set of 77, the first Talking Heads album with outtakes and a live material.

My son gave me a DVD box set of every Monty Python’s Flying Circus show. Lemon curry?

Happy Christmas, everyone!

I’m waiting for the Metal Machine Music box set with an additional 5 discs of alternative takes, previously unreleased tracks that were considered too melodic and outtakes of Lou’s studio japes.

Each box comes with a pack of Tylenol and an inspirational motto that asks; ‘You sure you’re OK?’

Happy Boxing Day to all!

I’m not a big box set kind of guy, because the bands I’m obsessive over aren’t big enough to get box sets for the most part.

But for me, a foundational box set was No Thanks! The 70’s Punk Rebellion. A great way to learn about many of the early punk bands not just with hits, but with many less famous cuts…
