Just in time for the start of September…
On this ninth day of the ninth month…

Can you guess these songs that have 9 or nine somewhere in the title, based on the audio clips?
- It can be part of another number.
- You get one point for naming the song and one point for naming the artist.
Tally up your score at the end and let us know how you did.
1:
“They say 2000 zero-zero party over, oops, out of time.”

2:
“In the event of something happening to me,
There is something I would like you all to see.”

3:
“Ain’t no use in complainin’, when you got a job to do.”

4:
“They don’t care cause they stay paid anyway.
They treat you like an ace they can’t be betrayed.
A no-use number with no-use people,
If your life is on the line then you’re dead today.”

5:
“I won’t let you down, I will not give you up
Gotta have some faith in the sound,
It’s the one good thing that I’ve got”

6:
“And when the sun comes up
I’ll be on top
You’ll be way down there
Lookin’ up”

7:
“At the wheel sit a big man,
He weighed about two-ten
He stuck out his hand, and said with a grin
‘Big Joe’s the name.’
And I told him mine.”

8:
“The childhood part of my life,
It wasn’t very pretty.
You see, I was born and raised in the slums of the city.”

9:
“Welcome back my friends
To the show that never ends.
We’re so glad you could attendm
Come inside, come inside”

10:
“The Watusi
The Twist
El Dorado
Take this brother; may it serve you well.”

11:
“And I don’t even care to shake these zipper blues.”

12:
“Sleep all day, out all night
I know where you’re goin’
I don’t think that’s actin’ right
You don’t think it’s showin’”

I got all 12.
I got four of them just by reading the lyrics without listening.
I had a feeling you’d get #7!
Given the category, I don’t know how you passed up this one…

Well, Zeusaphone, one would have to have actually heard of a song in order to consider it. It’s a good song, and I am not embarrassed at all to say that I had no idea of its existence prior to your posting it. It looks like it peaked on the country charts in 1976, right before I started getting familiar with country music for a hot minute when my brother took a producer job at the big country station in town.
I almost axed it but then I thought to myself, “well I know at least one person who will get it.” We’ll see if more follow.
Well done! I was hoping you would give it a shot.
9.5 – knew the act for Q9 but not the track title.
Never heard of the artist for Q7 and for Q12 I’ve only ever heard of through comments here.
On that basis I’m scoring myself 95%. Seems fair to me. 😀
Well done?
I assume the question mark is a typo.
I self-edit obsessively, so I think we know the answer to that.
I got 5 by the lyrics alone and another 3 when I played the clips. Also, I see that mt58 has the one and only single ever pressed of “Revolution 9”. On Capitalist records! from the LP Drug Songs. So many Easter Eggs, mt58.
