A big, Friday Hello to all! Welcome to the tnocs.com Weekend Wrap-Up!

It’s Summer. Boy, is it ever.

I don’t know about you, but me? I’m positively roasting. And one thing that I’ve noticed over the past few years: as the temperature rises, my appetite diminishes. Literally and figuratively.

So, maybe we’ll hone this week’s column into more of a “Fun-Size” kind of a thing. You know: some quickies, random thoughts, stray observations and general snippets from your, “I’m just glad to be here” host:

Allow me to translate:
“I don’t exactly have a central theme for this week’s article.
It’s OK, Dad. Randomize away.

Goodboy continues to know me better every week.

Oh! And before I forget: your most recent customer service metrics are just fantastic. Your rolling average is 4.96 Milk Bones! I’m so proud. Great Work!

Thank you. I strive for excellence and the opportunity to serve.

Now, exactly when do I get the treats?

I’ll see if I can get in touch with HR. I’ll get back to you on that. Anyway…

A random list deserves a randomly chosen bullet point. Let’s try a weird, sideways TAFKAP-ish thingy:

One thing that I have learned since we started this journey is that it’s wicked hard to reach new viewers. All things considered, we’re doing pretty well for a brand new, start-from-scratch website. I’m working hard in the background to get new readers to give us a try, and make the place an even better hang for everybody. And one way to do that is…

Behave like the old shampoo commercial:

And now, Professor Locklear will present her lecture on the Laws of Compound Interest.

You remember: You mention something to a couple of friends, and then they tell two friends… and so on… and so on… So, a huge thanks to lovethisconcept, Pauly Steyreen, Bill Virgindog Bois, thegue, (and anyone else that I may have missed) for promoting tnocs.com at other sites and social media platforms. Every link, every retweet, like, and referral of any kind helps significantly. I appreciate it so much.

↬ And if you’re thinking, “Hmm. I wonder how much it costs to keep the lights on over there…? As y’all may have noticed, we do have advertising on most pages and articles. Eventually, this should help. But I feel strongly that there should never be a fee to participate. No knock at all against those that choose that business model, but it’s just not for me. We’ll try to grow and make it, organically. (“What’s that,” you ask? Here you go: Warning: may cause drowsiness.)

I realize that it’s vacation time of year, and that everyone is super busy. That said, I have two things to humbly request:

  • Please consider checking in with a click or two, here and there, in between bites at your neighborhood barbeque.
  • We need articles! Don’t be shy – you are totally among friends.

It might be a short list and discussion of your favorite things…
a music, book or TV show that you want to tell us about about…
    a favorite memory…
    a funny story…
    a serious reflection…

If you’ve read some of our Contributing Author’s pieces, than you probably know that we cover a wide range.

And we wicked want to hear from you! If you have an idea and just want to bounce it off of me, please; let’s chat at submissions@tnocs.com.

Thanks for putting up with the rando this week. And now…

Here’s our weekly recap of recent cool stuff that you may have missed…

This Past Week’s New Articles

Monday! Contributing Author thegue cleared up the mystery of his unusual nickname with his usual humor, fun… and grace.

Meanwhile, Contributing Author Ozmoe held down the fort the sand castle and brought the memories with another terrific installment of his awesome Songs Of The Summer series…

We’re lovin’ Tuesdays, because that when we get to see another of Contributing Author JJ Live At Leeds’ wild (literally so) chapters in his wonderful mini-series about his travels, far and wide.

And we had a thoughtful and encouraging piece from Contributing Author and 10-star High school Counselor Chuck Small.

Wednesday! Nobody covers filmdom quite like our own cappiethedog – who was as fast as lightning – with a piece about a 2019 martial arts movie that comes with quite a “pedigree.”

Thursday, Contributing Author Phylum Of Alexandria was on deck, bringing us Chapter 2 of his contemplative Summer Mini-Series.

And on Friday: (Snare) Drum roll, please:

HOW DID HE DO IT? Fourteen episodes? Yikes!

Wrapping up the week with the Season One Finale of his Instructional Series, it’s Bill Bois, aka Virgindog. We offer a sincere thanks to Bill for the all of the fun. It was delight to look forward to each week, as we learned something new in each episode about music, instruments and the occasional power tool. I know that we’re all looking forward to Season 2.

Be sure to hang with us all weekend… drive-by comments here at The Weekend Files, as well as in any of our articles are always welcome.

Thank you in advance for keeping us company – we appreciate you!

Thank you so much for your support and kind comments about the site. I’m impossibly lucky to be able to hang with all of you. Have a great weekend, please be careful, take good care of yourselves and each other…

…and good on you all.

How do I spend my last 45 minutes at work before vacation? Setting up automatic out-of-office email replies, logging my hours even though I’m on salary, deciding this bit of code that isn’t working can wait until I get back, and reading the Weekend Files! Guess which one of those I like best.

I’ll check in at various rest stops along the way. May you all have a great weekend and an even better week.

Normal service has been resumed. After record temperatures last week, this week has seen some rain, a bit more rain and (takes a peek through the blinds), ah yes, drizzle. Very refreshing.

The race for power is now between Rishi ‘Rock’ Sunak and Liz ‘Hard Place’ Truss. It looks like the Hard Place is going to take it, leading the way into shit creek in search of policies.

Not quite as difficult a week, father in law has had pneumonia on top of various pre-existing lung conditions but now out of danger and out of hospital. Been able to get away from the worry of that as school holidays started. Me and mini J got lost in York Maze. A temporary maize maze grown for each summer and one of the biggest mazes in Europe.

And tickets purchased to see Fontaines DC in November which I am incredibly excited for. Normally buy my tickets from a local record shop but had to get these from corporate monolith Ticketmaster. Found they have a new money making wheeze in these days of e-tickets. On checking out they presented me with the option of paying an extra £2.50 to have what they refer to as a ‘Collector ticket’. Apparently the perfect souvenir to take home and remind you of the show. That’s progress for you, taking what you used to get as standard and selling it back to you as a premium product. I didn’t take them up on the offer.

Happy trails folks!

Thank you for your labor with this page Mt. I’m in the opposite situation, drowning with work and am reading the posts with delays.

I loved thegue’s last name story (I forgot to ask, can we @ other users in the posts or reply?).

And those who are taking vacations, have a nice and resting time.

Atta boy, mt!

I try to read y’all when I can (Phylum’s latest is very awesome); I’m still most devoted to the column at our common point of origin thrice a week and so free time can only slice so thin unfortunately. Hope everyone enjoys their vacations and weekends and whatnot!

You guys, I found out something pretty cool this week! I was catching up on the newest season of What We Do in the Shadows, and I thought the guy who plays the Djinn looked familiar. Turns out, it’s Anoop Desai from Season 8 of American Idol! He was one of my faves that season.

I meant to post this as a bonus beat at the time, but here’s his cover of “Angel of Mine”:

Hey, Kristin Schaal is in this…in a non-voiceover role. I’m in. “Conversation 16” is my favorite relatively contemporary music short ever. Schaal plays the president. Great silent movie acting.

I was horrified when my neck of the woods flooded the phones and knocked out Jennifer Hudson prematurely in Season 3. I never watched American Idol again.
