I once was asked to play and sing an Our Father at mass to the tune of “As Tears Go By” (it works). When I suggested that using a Rolling Stones song for the Lord’s Prayer was probably not in the liturgical norms, the person that was in charge said, “it’s Marianne Faithfull”, as if that made it more acceptable. It somehow did and we played it. RIP, Marianne.
