I have the day off from my real-life job today, so I was up early to commence coding for the new site. I felt inspired, and things were plodding along. And then I made a fatal mistake. I strayed. I wandered. Three guesses as to where, and the first two don’t count. I’ll offer a hint: it rhymes with “Merry Yo Plum.”
And per usual; it was a rabbit hole of fun. I can only hope that this place and it’s comment section will provide even a fraction of the good vibes and enjoyment that we all have had for years over at The Number Ones. I’m gonna try really hard to make it so.
Thanks to all who are checking this place out ! So many of you good folks are already visiting, pre-registering*, and chiming in. I appreciate each and every one of you and your incredible support.
* By the way: When you register: I don’t ask for your real-life name or anything private other than your email address, which will remain confidential. This data will never be sold, traded, or revealed. Ever.) Any registration problems or questions, hit me up at mt58@tnocs.com.
I’m trying to be very careful not to self-promote over at SG. When tnocs.com is ready from prime-time, I will reach out to Scott and see what he thinks about an occasional mention. That said, if anyone has any ideas on how to best get the word out that this place is a thing, I’m open to ideas.
Lastly: Please consider writing content for this site! Your article will be published front and center, for all the world to see, with the comments raining down like a spring shower, or a high school fundraiser car wash, pick your simile. We even have a special mailbox: Send your proposed stuff or questions about what we’re looking for to:
submissions@tnocs.com
Over and out for today, friends. Have a great day, and good on you all.

Will we lose points for spelling?
You had me panicked – I just scrambled to see if I had spelled “procrastination” incorrectly.
To answer directly: We got us one of those fancy-pants spellcheckers. We’re good to go.
Wrock n Wroll!
And with the ability to edit, we can change any accidental misspellings that get through spell check.
I am so excited for this new site. I am kind of stuck between not wanting to advertise it so much that we attract the trolls, and wanting to advertise it enough that all of our friends know about it and come on over.
And also excited for the thumbs up capability! Now I have to go back and like everything that’s been posted so far. And we’re starting right out with editing capability! That’s class right there.
Thank you! I aim to please.
More nifty commenting features are in the works. If anyone has suggestions for such enhancements, just let me know.
Not too worried about trolls… we can always sic mt58 on them. They’ll disappear in a flash!
And it was on this day that I became our designated pit bull.
Grrrr…
I have to say, I’ve been really disappointed with the new comments section over at TNO’s: maybe it’s just my laptop, but I regularly get kicked out (and it takes 20 tries to submit a comment), the page refreshes itself, and I have to click on each reply to open it, among other things.
I haven’t read any of Irish’s contributions on the site lately, because I can’t get to the bottom of the comments.
That is the main reason I stopped the top YouTube comments, although for this past week the choices were extremely stereotypical.
I know that we all got a kick out of your YT posts. They were always fun to read.
As far as the new comment section, it is taking some getting used to. I think that a lot of us would like to see a few tweaks. Virgindog and a few others had chimed in during the week with suggestions.
And not to throw stones from this glass house – I know this fledgling comment section isn’t exactly ready for prime time. But I’m working hard to get the entire tnocs.com platform just right before The Big Launch. . It’s a work in progress, but I’ll keep after it. And I appreciate that you took the time to say hello!
I love those youtube comments.
Has highrise created an account yet? He may want to post here.
Atta boy, Link. Delighted that you’ve enlisted!
Hey! Glad to see lots of familiar faces (so to speak) here already! Thanks to MT, the alchemy man! I’ve got thoughts, you can rate them in terms of importance:
I’m heavily in favor of a small subscription fee, if it means no banner ads. Something from the early internet days I really, really miss is bulletin boards. I’m sure some of you remember those – pages and pages of text, back before banner and other associated ads became so nauseatingly ubiquitous… But I know little about the economics of running something like this, or whether asking, maybe, $5/month from everyone would be feasible. Hopefully someone will share that info (or maybe it’s already been explained, I haven’t even read all the previous entries yet). Also in favor of the idea is my assumption that a subscription fee would repel trolls…
On the profile page, the buttons for Posts and for Comments – that’s golden. I second thegue’s gripes about the navigation issues with the new comments section. Plus, all the collapsed comments make it hard for me to find my few pithy responses and Shallow reminiscences… I had just gotten the hang of ctrl+f!
BG!!!
So glad that you signed on. I’m coding my little heart out, here, and hope to have things ready to roll for the ridiculously irrational 03.10.2022 self-imposed deadline.
I’ll incur costs to operate the site, but I’m looking for ways to have a zero-cost experience. More to come on that soon. And thanks for the kind feedback about posts/ comments. I have some other neat-o things up my sleeve…
Lastly: to you and anyone who might be interested in writing for the new site: please hit me up at submissions@tnocs.com and I can tell you more. We already have three good souls who have articles waitin’ in the wings, with another four great (and familiar) names who are finishing up their pieces. I’d name names, but I love to surprise…
Anyway, thanks to you and to all who are supporting this new initiative. I greatly appreciate the kindness.

Ooh, oooh! I nominate Bix to provide us his first hand account of touring Paisley Park over the weekend!!!! That can be a fun official Welcome to tnocs.com tale!
Or as we call it at work, I’m “volun-telling” Bix to share his experience.😏
Here’s hoping. Would love to see that !
I’ll fire up the bat-signal.
Been busy with basketball state championship week. And HOORAY for the ladies. They took their first state championship in school history and they did it with an undefeated season (26-0)! Also been working on a project for this site. Hopefully it will be a worthy one.
For all you music and history lovers out there, I highly recommend the new book by Questlove (of the Roots) titled”Music Is History”. He covers many of the discussions we’ve had through the years and it’s a delightful read.
Undefeated! Pretty great! Kudos to the team!
“Also been working on a project for this site. Hopefully it will be a worthy one.”
Zero doubt. It will be more than worthy; it will be great!
We have wonderful content coming in from so many excellent TNOCS writers. It’s running the gamut from funny to thoughtful, on all kinds of topics. Just like from where we all met! Y’all are gonna love it. Can’t wait!
If you’re interested at all in writing features for tnocs.com, please let me know via email. A one-off… an ongoing series… whatever… Let’s chat at:
