Wow! What a Busy First-Round Week!
You all kept everyone in the tnocs.com back office really on the run, as we dutifully collected your awesome nominations!
Sure, things got a little crazy. But we think that we’ve got it all under control. Let’s send a big shout-out to our crackerjack IT team!
Aww, Gary, you know we love ya. We’ve got a nice, iced mushroom coffee ready, just for you.
So, down to business: Whence last we met, we noted:
There are So. Many. Christmas Songs.
But as always, you all came through with some inspired choices. And we’ve encoded all of them in a poll below.
Your job, should you choose to accept it, is to select up to three favorites from the list.
Defend and tout your selections in the comments below! And don’t forget: We’ll have a little “Reveal Party” tonight, also in the comment section below, and post the results for all to see.
OK, gang: click away!

Whelp, it will either be epic, or a colossal fail. But we’re gonna take a shot at something different:
A live group chat tonight. Bring something to eat. You’ll need the stamina.
Wish me luck.
Wish I could be there. Unfortunately, I already have a commitment. Love to all!
These are really tough choices, but some are pretty bitchin’.
…but not as bitchin’ as Burl Ives.
Will anything ever really be as bitchin’ as Burl Ives?
Sounds like another poll could be in the works…
Camaro.
Picture, if you will, Burl Ives (instead of Rick James) in this clip. Either in human form or as Sam Snowman, your choice.

This is really hard. Can’t we do 10 songs each?? 😊
Sorry, there’s a three vote limit.
And there totally isn’t a flaw in the code that allows for both a desktop and a mobile vote.
So you’d yield a possible six choices.
Of course not. I mean, what would Mike Lindell say? Perish the thought.
Unlike Pillow Man, I will not try to rig the election!

I know. It’s like trying to pick from the menu at your favorite restaurant. I want one of everything.
My picks:
All excellent choices.
Like trying to nail jello to the wall – just three? Really? So hard.
The only way I could wrap my head around the exercise was to imagine which three songs would be conspicuous by their absence if the Christmas season came and went without hearing them. It’s just not Christmas until I hear these in the wild.
1) “It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year” – Andy Williams
2) “Let It Snow” – Dean Martin
3) “The Christmas Song” – Nat King Cole
That’s a good measuring tool. Which song makes me say, “Ah, the season’s officially here” when I hear it for the first time? For me, it’s Bing Crosby’s White Christmas.” For years, my sister and I would call each other when we heard it for the first time, as you say “in the wild.” Now when I hear it for the first time, I look up and say, “This one’s for you. We’ll spend Christmas together again someday.”
The bitchin’ one (not the Camaro, though it’s in all the papers) better make top 3. Or else… nah, I got nothin’
How we breakin’ the 3 way tie for 3rd? Knife fight?
Yes. And the winner has to fight Bitchin’ Burl Ives.
“Old Toy Trains” by Glen Campbell (written by Roger Miller)
“Silent Night” by Huey Piano Smith and the Clowns (written by who-knows-who)
“Pretty Paper” by Roy Orbison (written by Willie Nelson)
How does anybody not like “Don’t You Just Know It”? That’s a fun song.
My mother used to sing along with songs while making stained glass. She loved that song – it’s a lyric she never got wrong! “Hey, yo! Looba-looba-looba-looba….”
I must’ve missed how we got to “ Don’t You Just Know It”, but I love that song. I know best the version by Minnesota surf band The Fendermen.
“Just in time to respond to the subpoena from the Burl Ives Estate …”
Whatevs, they’re just jealous they didn’t think to rebrand Burl Ives themselves. 😎
Sorry I wasn’t around for the live fun, but looks like we’ve got a solid Top 5 Traditional Tunes; well done everyone!
Man, I missed both the voting and the live group chat (sigh). But these nominees and comments are to me what Christmas is all about. I’ll be on time at least for the next voting round, I promise!
The chat thing was an experiment. We’ll likely do more, if folks like it, Ozmoe.
