Points to ponder:
- Note that we lined up pretty closely with VH1, Billboard, and the critic’s choice aggregations at Acclaimed Music….
- … Somewhat less so with “the other site” and the Billboard rankings.
- … And completely off from the Village Voice.
- Also note that one of our finalists — and three of our Final Four — appear on multiple lists.
But one of our finalists? They’re not in anybody’s Top Five!
Does this make Lada Gaga the underdog? The Cinderella headed to the TNOCS ball?
Maybe so… but will that make a difference when Final votes are tallied? We shall see…
I promised I would reveal the song I thought would win when it’s eliminated.
While I’d be proud to say 🤐 at this point… I can’t.
I have to reveal the song I thought would win (not necessarily my favorite though it IS incredible)… was “Crazy in Love”
Anyway, this is your chance to make music history. If 50 million Elvis fans can’t be wrong, then certainly 100+ TNOCS-ers are the truth incarnate.
Will you vote for Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance”?
Or will it be Outkast’s “Hey Ya!”?
If you’re reading this: voting is open NOW! It ends this Friday at 9:00 PM GMT. A handy little clock is provided below.
Be sure to stop by and comment on Friday night! We’re withholding the vote tallies until then… because someone has a flair for the dramatic.
Thanks for stopping by and voting!!!i
As always, vote with your heart, not with some sense of strategy. The song that moves you, not the song you think others would approve of. The wisdom of the commentariat will prevail.
May the best song win and live in eternal glory!
Thanks for stopping by!

I would have voted for “Crazy in Love.” Which is crazy for me, as I didn’t care that much for it when it was a hit.
Bey Ya!
My guess for the win is still in the running. Both songs are good, but I got to give the edge to… well, I don’t want to influence anyone. We’ll just see who wins.
Ratcheting up the tension by hiding the scores, I like it!
The song I wanted to win = Paper Planes
The song I thought would win = Hey Ya!
The song I’m voting for this week = Bad Romance
While I think Hey Ya! will win I prefer Bad Romance. So I win either way. Loved Hey Ya! when it came out but Bad Romance feels the fresher of the two.
I went in assuming, intellectually, that I would pick Bad Romance.
But I went with my gut. And it turns out that my gut just had to shake it, shake it, shake it. Shake it like a Polaroid picture.
“While I think Hey Ya! will win I prefer Bad Romance. So I win either way. Loved Hey Ya! when it came out but Bad Romance feels the fresher of the two.”
I don’t know why I think it will be the other way around, I mean, I voted for HY!, because I really like it, but mainly because I didn’t see that received much love back in the Number One’s column, though I guess BR is going to win.
This was an excellent, emotionally exhausting event. Even though my favorites are not in the final two, those are two damn fine songs to choose between.
We’re going to have a live unveiling chat group going? Fun!! Instead of a Gender Reveal Party, it’ll be The Thrilla in Manilla – TNOCS style!
Set your clocks for This Friday, 9 PM, GMT!
Which, for those like me who are chronologically challenged…
5 PM Eastern on Friday!
I’m feeling chronologically challenged. According to the clock we’re operating on a whole new time measurement of at least 25 hours in a day.
Tnocs is now so influential its messing with the concept of time.
What’s it like living in the future?
Thoroughly disgusted with such inept timekeeping, Doc Brown and Marty McFly have left the chat.
There’s no jetpacks, no flying cars, no pill to cure all diseases and provide all required daily nutrition. I feel robbed.
And it’s raining.
‘Bad Romance’ seems to have had the tougher opponents down through the bracket. We’ll see if it can defeat the pop monster that is ‘Hey Ya!’
What song did I vote for? I’ll “Never Tell”.
I was going to quote the spoken word part from what I think you’re referencing, Pauly, or really, any part of the song, but it’s all too dark, and inappropriate.
If I quoted Violent Femmes, it was unintentional. Just sitting there in my subconscious…
Ack. “Beautiful Day” is a great song.
I miss the Pazz and Jop. I’d check out all the albums with one vote.
Completely irrelevant to the Gaga-Outkast showdown, but I have to share…
Did you know groundhogs climb trees? I’m sitting here today, working away, la-di-da, and a pudgy blob waddles into my peripheral vision out the window next to me. Next thing I know, this chubby, large rodent has climbed my mulberry tree, gets settled between some limbs, and starts eating leaves like he’s a koala.
I honestly never imagined I’d ever see anything like that in my lifetime.
Are you sure it’s a groundhog and not a treehog?
Just joking. I don’t think there’s such an animal. There are, however, roadhogs and bedhogs.
Oh! Maybe they are groundhogs on the ground, but become woodchucks in trees! 😆
I came for the song ranking.
I stayed for the marmota monax
Lol Dutch I have the same situation going on in my yard. Either they’ve developed some new abilities or the people who hand out these names have no idea what they’re talking about!
I’ll say it here: I voted for Hey Ya! But watching what Lady Gaga said about Tony Bennett in the wake of his death as well as explore her other work post-Bad Romance, dammit she deserves a win here if she gets it. A true class act that we need more of in the music business.
I have to say, if I had been voting on this five, ten or fifteen years ago, my vote in the finals would’ve been different. There’s definitely been a change in my evaluation towards Gaga and Outkast…
…and that’s all I got ta say about that.
Same here…
What’s cooler than being cool?
Come back later tonight, and we’ll see!

53-52? Talk about a squeaker! This is a fantastic result!
(And not just because my guess won. 😅 )
You spoke too soon… it’s 5:00 and voting is tied 53–53 (and still open for now?)
Hmmm…. It’s indeed tied, but is saying voting’s not active. Ack! How can we live our lives without having the ultimate winner!
Actually, I’m fine with a tie. Seems only right.
Amazing! I swear on my stack of Fred Bronson books that this is legit.
And I have to confess I’m not sure why it’s showing Lady Gaga as the winner, because it was a legitimate tie in this round.. So anyway, what are we thinking? Let it be a natural tie? Appoint someone to be an official coin flipper?Appoint someone to be an official coin flipper?
Weird, I see “Hey Ya” as the winner: 58 to 53.
I wonder what the real result is. In any event, it’s a great way to ratchet up the drama.
Oof. I promise I will do a full audit within one hour. Honestly shall prevail.
(I can just hear the Pillow Guy now:
AHA! I BET HE’S USING DOMINION VOTING SOFTWARE!”)
I think this means that “Single Ladies” is the winner!
Bey rises from the ashes!
I vote for a tie. Which is a weird thing to say.
I think the tiebreaker needs to be total # votes through all rounds….
Or mt just needs to do a Hey Ya Bad Romance mash up to placate the masses (ie, me)
I see 53-53… how did the “system” choose Gaga? Because she was listed first?
Mt58 knows the tiebreaker protocols we discussed at the outset. He just need to follow them and we’re golden. (Or did you already?)
Great. All eyes on me. Talk about the pressure!
I’m going to go back and do a real audit and then figure the whole thing out. Give me a couple of hours!
You got it! And if it is indeed a tie, you’ve got the magic touch brother!
In case the recount reveals a tie, then we may need to Monty Python this deal…
We should bring Tom in to break the tie.
He gave the one I voted for a 6 and the other song a 10. So I’m in favor of different solution…
My philosophy is cooperation>competition, so I’d be happy with a tie.
How magnanimous! 😜
Seriously though, I’m happy with a tie but also open to other options…
Hey (ya) everybody…
I checked. I recounted.
The voting was all legit.
And while I understand that some of us can live with a tie… some of us just can’t. Some need closure.
So for those of you who need an official wrap, I get it. And I figured that there might be someone who could put this to all to rest:
Good on you, friend. And thanks for the kind words.
Brilliant idea for someone to break the tie, mt. Might as well go to the top.
The Man Breihan has Spoken/emailed.
This is like Jordan coming in on Game 7 of the NBA Finals after its still tied following quadruple OT, and he merely points to the one team while fireworks spark from his fingertips and a filtered spotlight appears out of nowhere to cast ethereal light on The Chosen One.
Rah-rah, Gaga!!!
Clearly, he pushed off on Byron Russell.
You let that stuff go only when time is about to expire.
I double-checked. There were five seconds left. The ref had to blow the damn whistle.
Not a hater. Just liked Karl Malone and John Stockton.
Wow!!!! Diego Maradona moment here from the elevated one!
Hand of the replay official, no “Hand of God”.
I’m still seeing “Hey Ya” as the winner with 58 votes. Nefarious forces are at work to put Stephanie Germano in power…
Ok, figured it out; this is the result of the semifinals. OutKast over MIA, and Gaga over Bey.
If you scroll to the right, you can see the finals- 53 each.
#hangingchad
Hmmm…so a “rightward lurch” is necessary to get to those results…very interesssting…
♫ To the right, to the right… ♫
Yeah!
A worthy winner and what drama at the end, leaving us hanging as to the outcome.
Has anyone notified Gaga of her triumph and is the tnocs legal team ready to deal with objections from Andre 3000?
I can’t explain why, but it somehow felt very tnocs that the voting ended up in a tie. The outcome is a big “meh” for me, but I love that Tom got to cast the deciding vote and that we got to see his positive remarks to mt.
