No, it’s not you at all. Sorry everybody; first day bugginess & lack of clarity…
If you play around with these settings, I think you can get to where you need to be.
I’ll make them easier to find, and navigate.
And I really appreciate the bug report. Please, everybody: let me know what you like and don’t like so I can take a look.
And a note to everyone: please, please send me any and all buggy issues or frustrations.
I promise to address them, and I want to make the user experience for this site as simple, easy to use, and fun as possible. I promise you all that I’m on it.
Here in the United States, St. Paddy’s Day can have a drunk-before-noon, kiss-me-I’m-Irish, trashy vibe, sometimes with a whiff of white supremacy. For most people who acknowledge it at all, it’s a lame excuse to get drunk (like its similarly misunderstood cousin Cinco de Mayo).
Which is a shame, because the people of Ireland suffered through some of the most profound pre-20th century genocide in Europe. I read Sven Lindqvist’s Exterminate all the Brutes last year after watching the HBO documentary of the same name. The techniques the English used to commit genocide against the Native Americans — killing not just the men but also women and children, destroying food, repeated relocation and starvation — were first tried and perfected against the Irish. It’s a story that’s been largely ignored, at least here in the US.
So, to imperfectly acknowledge the struggle the Irish have endured as well as the weird quasi-fake holiday St. Patrick’s Day has become here in the US, I present the song below. A cover of a John Lennon song by Shonen Knife (guest vocals by Jeff McDonald from Redd Kross) — “The Luck of the Irish”
Wonegan here! Congratulations on the inaugural Day 1 of this wonderful undertaking. I need to explore. In the interim, the Productivity Group from my HR Dept. (and other TNOCS’ers organisations) would like a word with Mr. mt58. Seriously, this awesome and can’t wait to explore! You ROCK!!!
Firstly, awesome contributions by our initial batch of content writers… I’ll admit I get overwhelmed sometimes by the sheer amount of information in TNOCS (Stereogum version) and I always feel like I’m missing something. I feel like I can breathe a little better when I’m reading it in article form here (does that make sense? it did in my head until I started typing it out, lol). Trust me, this isn’t meant as a disparagement of TNOCS (Sv), and I feel blessed by all of y’all’s output over there as well.
Secondly, that dialogue between General Halftrack and his wife in the paper mt is reading had me literally snorting laughter. Yes, I’m easily amused sometimes.
May I be the first to say it? Atta boy.
The site looks great, and I particularly like the tin cans and string graphic. Congratulations on a job well done.
Right there with you. Seems like fun, and who couldn’t use more of that?
I got an email notice this morning, and hot damn, looky here –
tnocs.com really is open for business!
[Wanders through the spiffy new digs like a 3 year old and touches everything…]

Not to be dense, but there’s an Edit button? Sorry, I don’t see it.
You’re not dense. I need to be a better coder. I’ll fix it. In the meantime:

I never knew Shonen Knife had a softer side to them. I’ll drink to them.
Site looks amazing – nice work. Now I have another place keeping me away from being a productive human being.
Wooooot! Thank you, MT! Can’t wait to dig in.

Good grief! I’m being called down to HR on my first day…
This cannot be good…

Hello! This is great!
Here for it. Thanks for making this, mt.
