Confession: I get distracted by fireworks. And other shiny things.

It took some effort (and the depletion our semi-legal supply of Roman candles), but we’ve concentrated long enough to cross a musical Delaware, and deliver this Fourth Of July quiz.
Test your estimable powers of sonic recall with our lyrical riddles, all themed around songs with “Red,” “White,” and “Blue” in their titles.
Round 1:

What big eyes you have,
The kind of eyes that drive wolves mad

When the men on the chessboard
Get up and tell you where to go

You saw me standing alone, without a dream in my heart, without a love of my own.
Round 2:

I bought my ticket with my tears, that’s all I’m gonna spend

Hey little sister shotgun

The wind in the willow played love’s sweet melody
Round 3

I say the ride is so smooth – you must be a limousine

Just what the truth is, I can’t say anymore

No more sadness, I kiss it goodbye
The sun is bursting right out of the sky
Round 4

I ain’t been home to see my baby, in 99 and one-half days

I’m fluent in JavaScript as well as Klingon

There’s a fog upon L.A. and my friends have lost their way
Round 5

Goes to my head, makes me forget

He needs some cool tunes, not just any will suffice
But they didn’t have Ice Cube, so he bought Vanilla Ice

I must admit I felt a little uneasy when she went to tie the lace of my shoe
Round 6

Hielten sich für Captain Kirk, das gab ein großes Feuerwerk

I’m a loner, but I’m never alone
Every night I get one step closer to the danger zone

Da ba dee, da ba die, Da ba dee, da ba die, da ba dee, Da ba die
Score Time: How Did You Do?
0–5 correct: Hey, we all have our strengths – maybe yours is actually knowing all the words to “The Star-Spangled Banner” without looking them up, which honestly puts you ahead of most people.
6–10 correct: Not bad! You’ve got enough red, white, and blue knowledge to survive a backyard barbecue playlist without looking completely lost.
11–15 correct: Very impressive! You’re ready to be the designated music trivia person at this year’s Fourth of July party.
16–18 correct: Congratulations, you’re basically the musical equivalent of a perfect fireworks display – impressive, well-timed, and probably showing off just a little bit. Your friends definitely hate playing music trivia with you.
This was an awesome quiz. I got 15 out of 18, so not genius level, but not a bad showing. I am currently not in the US so this was a nice way to connect with the homeland.
Safe travels, wherever you are!
15 as well. Not bad for a limey. I was pleasantly surprised with the first clue, I’ve never heard that song but based on the lyrics I made an educated guess at what it could be and was right.
Though I was momentarily put off by the cherry pie thinking that was also a clue. All I could think of was Cherry Pie by Warrant. Then I spotted the recurring visual representation of the colour running through the quiz. There’s no fooling me. Ahem.
Happy freedom from the yoke of British oppression day!
Considering how things have been going for the past few months across the Pond, you’re all probably glad that you got rid of us.
At least for now. I’m going to go out and take my dog for a walk this morning while I count number of upside down flags in my neighborhood.

I must still be waking up … got 13 so far. Since I haven’t listened to the snippets yet, I’m not giving up. I’ll try again in a bit.
I got 15 and two halves, meaning I got the right artist but the wrong song or vice versa. Do halves count?
Great quiz! Everyone be careful with those fireworks today, OK?
I got 17. Couldn’t remember the name of the Hendrix song.
I was going to count up the number of Hot 100 songs with each color but there are too many.
